FAQ

Xcel Energy Solar*Rewards Community Program Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How much of the community solar project can I subscribe to?
    • A residential customer can subscribe for up to 120% of your annual historical electric usage. (This allows you to maximize your Solar Share and potential net benefits.)

  • Are there credit score requirements?
    • Yes, we require a minimum FICO credit score of 680 to participate.

  • Where is the project to be located?
    • The Lafayette Horizon Solar CSG LLC project will be located on Horizon Ave in the City of Lafayette.

  • What is the current project development schedule?
    • The project is expected to enter construction in July 2018 and be operational by October 2018. This means you could begin receiving Solar*Rewards Community credits as early as November 2018.

  • I have solar on my roof, can I still participate?
    • Yes! Typically most customers can’t satisfy all of their electrical usage needs just from a rooftop system. We will work with Xcel Energy to make sure we account for what you are using from your on-site system.

  • I don’t live in Lafayette city limits – can I still participate?
    • Yes, we can accept Xcel Energy customers within Boulder County or any adjacent bordering County.

  • Will Xcel Energy remain my utility provider?
    • Yes, we are not your Utility nor your Energy Supplier. You will be subscribing to a Solar Share in the Lafayette Community Solar Garden. You will receive Solar*Rewards Community Credits on your Xcel bill based upon your Solar Share’s production in the community solar garden.

  • Will I still pay my normal Xcel Energy electric bill?
    • Yes, you will still receive your normal Xcel Energy bill, except now you will see Solar*Rewards Community credits that reduce your total bill charges. Then, you will also receive a monthly invoice from Community Energy Solar for your Community Solar Subscription charges.

  • Do the Solar*Rewards Community Credits expire?
    • The SRC credits do not expire. They roll forward in a Solar Bank that you can view on your bill every month. You can use these credits in future months when your usage may go up.

  • Can I participate if I just bought a new house and have lived there for only a few months?
    • You must have lived in your residence for at least 4 months. Otherwise, you will need to provide a floor plan and blue prints so Xcel can estimate your usage data in the new property.
